Apling Israel  Cemetery: Davis - Ray Township
Born:  July 3, 1842** (NY)  Died: November 12, 1863 (21y,4m,9d)
Researchers Note: Enlisted in Company H, One-hundred-fifty-first New York Infantry, on September 2, 1862 at Royalton, New York, age 20, to serve three years. Mustered October 22, 1862. Discharged for disability, March 30, 1863, at Baltimore Maryland.
Enlistment Rank:  Private
Pension: No pension record found.

Researchers Note: The military information cited above is taken from "Chronicles of the One Hundred Fifty-First Regiment", published in 1911. The information set forth in this publication was a direct result of contributions submitted by surviving members of this unit and was provided to us by a great grandson of one of the members of Company H, One-hundred fifty-first New York Infantry, who still resides in New York.

Researchers Note: The official record for this veteran, as listed by the New York Adjutant General reads, "Israel D. Apling, age 37, enlisted August 30, 1862, at Royalton, New York to serve three years, mustered in as private Co. H, One hundred fifty-first Infantry on October 22, 1862: transferred to Thirty-third company, Second Battalion, Veteran Reserve Corps, September 26, 1863: discharged June 29, 1865, at Washington, D.C." In the "Chronicles" listed above, this military information belongs to a William Apling, who served in the same unit as Israel D. Apling. It should be noted that none of the Civil War data sites on the internet list a William Apling serving in any unit, from any state in the Union. There does, however, exist a pension application submitted by William Apling, which cites his military service record and it matches the military information contained in this paragraph.

Researchers Note: After thorough research and consideration of the information set forth in the "Chronicles" mentioned above, it is the researchers' opinion that both Israel D. and William Apling served in Company H, One-hundred fifty-first New York Infantry, even though the official record does not list William Apling. It is also our opinion that the military record attributed to Israel Apling, as listed on several internet sites is, in fact, the record of William Apling, and further that the military record of Israel Apling is not listed on any of the internet sites.
