Clemens; he was afflicted with goiter, and was discharged February 11, 1863, at Camp Pitcher; he re-enlisted, November 1, 1863, in the First Michigan Cavalry, Company A, and was discharged June 19, 1865, at Cumberland, Md., on the Surgeon's certificate of disability from wounds received in the battle of the Wilderness; he was in the several actions at Williamsburg, Fair Oaks, Malvern Hill, Seven Pines, Wilderness and Fredericksburg." Note the discharge date from the First Michigan Cavalry differs from the official record.

Researchers Note: According to the official record, his enlistment age is 44, which obviously was incorrect. Considering his birth date, his actual enlistment age would have been approximately 56. It is probable he shaded the truth about his age at enlistment.

Researchers Note: The military headstone lists this veteran's given name as Ransford. A thorough search of all military records shows no Ransford Hazelton serving the Union during the Civil War. There is, however, a Ransom Hazelton listed in the military units listed above.

Researchers Note: This veteran is the son of Ransom Hazelton, listed above. Birthplace according to Washington Township death records is listed as New York. In "History of Macomb County" by M. A. Leeson, birthplace is listed as Ingham County, Michigan. We believe that Michigan as the birthplace is correct, since his parents migrated from New York to Michigan in 1837.
