Researchers Note: There is a discrepancy on date of death of this veteran between the monument in this cemetery and the official record. The burial monument in the Mt. Vernon cemetery reads as follows: Calvin Metz, died in Libby Prison and John B. Metz was killed at Chickamauga. The official record on these two veterans, cited word for word from the "Record of Service of Michigan Volunteers in the Civil War, 1861-1865", reads exactly the opposite. Could the carver of the monument have gotten them backwards? To substantiate the official record, see the following note from another source.

Researchers Note: In the "History of Macomb County", a set of two books found in most libraries, there is Chapter XXII entitled The War For The Union starting on page 370. A write-up on each unit serving in this war from Michigan is listed. The write-up for the 22nd Michigan Infantry, starting on page 399, lists some of the casualties of this unit. Listed on page 406 is Calvin Metz, killed at Chickamauga, September 20, 1863.
