Researchers Note: The military headstone in the Romeo Cemetery shows this veteran as E. D. Prentiss, Company A, Twenty-second Michigan Infantry. After research of all records of the Twenty-second Michigan Infantry, no soldier in this regiment was named E. D. Prentiss. In fact, there was only one Prentiss and his given name was Hiram. Further research indicates that this veteran was actually in Company A, Ninth Michigan Infantry, under the name Edwin D. Prentiss and was from Romeo. The initial research for Edward D. Prentiss was a result of that name being listed on the Civil War monument in the Romeo Cemetery.

Researchers Note: No headstone for this veteran has been found. We do know, from the Macomb County death records, that this veteran is buried in the Romeo Cemetery. It is quite possible that this veteran is buried next to his wife (Isabel Washer Price) and son (Johnny Price) in this section.

Researchers Note:  This veteran was buried as an indigent soldier according to the Indigent Soldier Burial Report, Volume A.

Researchers Note:  The two government issued headstones for this veteran are in separate sections of this cemetery. From the "Record of Service of Michigan Volunteers in the Civil War 1861-1865", as outlined above, this veteran served in both the 22nd and the 29th Michigan Infantry, however, it is unusual for two headstones for the same veteran to be issued by the government. No question exists that these headstones are for the same veteran, however, the reason for the issuance of two headstones and the placement of same in separate cemetery sections is unknown. Possibly the answer to this question is the fact that there were three requests for military headstones (two for the 22nd Michigan and one for the 29th Michigan) and the government issued one for each unit.
