He, along with a total of six companies of the Ninth Michigan Infantry, was captured by General Nathan Bedford Forrest on July 13, 1862, at Murfreesboro, Tennessee. They were paroled the next day. This veteran was discharged shortly after this event by general order mustering out all regimental bands from the service.

Researchers Note:  This veteran is listed as a prisoner at Andersonville Prison in Georgia. The records indicate that he was taken prisoner on Stoneman's raid to Macon, Georgia on August 2, 1864. While the records of Andersonville Prison indicate that this veteran survived, there is, in his pension file, an affidavit filed by a fellow prisoner that states Corey D. Stone died in Andersonville and he personally saw his remains being removed from prison for burial. The date of death above is from that affidavit and other information in the veteran's pension file. The headstone may be a memorial stone.
