Researchers Note: According to a special veteran census conducted in 1890, this veteran suffered from a gun shot wound in left shoulder with total disability of left hand and arm. Additionally, in an obituary for this veteran contained in the Mount Clemens, Michigan Press of November 1, 1894, it is stated that this veteran "had drawn a pension of $36 a month for a number of years, on account of a gunshot wound which necessitated the excission of the humerus at the shoulder".

Researchers Note:  This veteran was buried as an indigent soldier according to the Indigent Soldier Burial Report, Volume A. This report indicates that the service record for this veteran was the 8th Michigan Cavalry.

Researchers Note:  According to a special veteran census conducted in 1890, this veteran, John B. Trombley, 8th Michigan Cavalry, suffered from disease of the testicles and atrophy as a result of service in the Civil War.

Researchers Note:  The military headstone for this veteran, in the St. Peter's Cemetery, lists his service in Company D, 9th Michigan Cavalry. There was a John B. Trombley who served in this company, however, he is buried in St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe, Michigan. There is a military headstone to that effect in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Also his wife is buried next to him in that cemetery. This information has been confirmed through contact with the Monroe County Historical Society who has records of this cemetery. It would appear that the headstone in the St. Peter's Cemetery either was ordered wrong, or the inscription on the stone was in error, or the stone was delivered to the wrong place. Suffice it to say that the John B. Trombley buried in the St. Peter's Cemetery actually served in the 8th Michigan Cavalry regardless of the notation on his headstone.

Researchers Note:  This veteran was buried as an indigent soldier according to Volume A of the Indigent Soldier Burial Report.  In addition, he is listed in the “Record of Service of Michigan Volunteers in the Civil War 1861-1865” under the name of Trumley, Herman in addition to the name Trombly, Henry.  The pension record for this veteran is listed under the surname of Trumbley.

Researchers Note:  No headstone has been found for this veteran in this cemetery. Death record and obituary indicate burial in this cemetery.
