Macomb County. Enlisted in Company I, Ninth Michigan Infantry, August 15, 1861, at Mt. Clemens, for 3 years, age 19. Mustered October 15, 1861. Taken prisoner in Sequatchie Valley, Tennessee, October 2, 1863. On duty with Eleventh Michigan Infantry from December 28, 1863 to March 24, 1864. Discharged at expiration of term of service October 14, 1864.

Born:  January 29, 1818 (NY)  Died: July 25, 1901 (83y,5m,26d)
Romeo. Enlisted in Company A, Fifth Michigan Cavalry, as Quartermaster Sergeant August 4, 1862, at Romeo, for 3 years, age 43. Mustered August 26, 1862. Honorably discharged at Campbell Hospital, Washington, D.C., May 10, 1865, on account of wounds received in action.

There is no headstone for this veteran in the Romeo Cemetery. According to Romeo military records, as maintained and updated by Mr. Ed Aikman, this veteran is buried in the SE corner of section 10. In all probability he is buried next to his wife, Julia Voorheis, who is buried in this location.

Researchers Note: According to a special veteran census conducted in 1890, this veteran suffered from a shot wound through roof of mouth. Can't talk much. Wound a result of service in the Civil War.

Ray. Enlisted in Company G, Eighth Michigan Cavalry, as Corporal, December 29, 1862, at Ray, for 3 years, age 27. Mustered February 3, 1863. Transferred to Invalid Corps, January 15, 1864. Discharged at Indianapolis, Indiana, August 3, 1865, as First Sergeant of Company G, Seventeenth Regiment, Veteran Reserve Corps.
Enlistment Rank: Corporal. Promoted to First Sergeant.

Researchers Note: According to the Federal Pensioners Roll of 1883, this veteran suffered from an injury to the abdomin. According to a special veteran census conducted in 1890, this veteran suffered from a hernia and vericoceli as a result of service in the Civil War. Both injuries are probably related.

(Veteran), St. Clair County. Enlisted in Company E, Fifth Michigan Infantry, September 5, 1861, for 3 years. Mustered September 11, 1861. Re-enlisted as Corporal December 15, 1863, at Brandy Station, Virginia. Mustered December 27, 1863. Killed at Spottsylvania, Virginia, May 12, 1864.
